There’s a moment (usually about twelve minutes in) when the noise fades and the flow begins. That’s the powerful experience of a Clarity Break.

A Clarity Break is a focused pause to step out of the daily grind and actually think. It’s a discipline I draw from the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS®), and one of the most powerful tools I’ve found for intentional leadership and personal clarity.

EOS defines a Clarity Break as time you schedule away from the office, away from the swirl, to rise above the day-to-day and reflect on your business, team, or self. No email. No to-do list. Just you, your thoughts, and a blank page.

Here’s how I take mine, and how I suggest you try yours:

1. Leave your usual workspace.
The more the new location feels like a retreat, the more productive I tend to be. But sometimes, a simple trip to a local coffee shop does the trick.

2. Bring a notebook or journal.
Try to go analog.

3. Tune out distractions.

4. Let yourself think (and feel).
These prompts often help me begin:– What’s working? What’s not?
– What’s my real priority right now?
– Am I using my time and energy where it matters?
– What’s become overly complicated that needs to be simplified?
– Where am I out of alignment?
– What’s the one thing I need to decide?

What I gain, and what you likely will, too:

  • A clearer view of the full landscape
  • The ability to stop reacting and start leading my life and business on purpose, with purpose
  • A return to focus, confidence, and calm recalibration

It doesn’t have to be weekly. But it does need to happen regularly—before burnout sets in, not after.

I took this photo last year on my Clarity Break near Pula, Istria. Croatian Adriatic water stretching out like a mirror. The water was so clear I could see all the way to the rocks below: ripples, shells, little shimmering fish. A fantastic non-vacation day!
