From the kitchen window I notice the cars. Mine behind Liam’s. I take a picture for no good reason, which usually means something is stirring. I call my car Orca because of its shape and size. Safe by design. Liam’s car, nicknamed Blue, looks smaller by comparison. I catch myself wondering if it is safe enough to keep my young one safe.
PS: Note from today
In June 2021, two months after this photo was taken, Liam was in a car accident. Everyone was generally safe. He injured his back, beginning a long healing journey, inside and out (you can hear more in this episode). I received his call while working at home with a dear friend and colleague, a mom herself. She stayed calm, present, and organized, which helped me stay steady. This is conscious leadership too: showing up with humanity when a co-worker needs it most.
