We drove too far and waited too long for the early family dinner everyone agreed on, so by the time we warmed up around the outdoor fireplace at Skamania Lodge, waiting for our table number to be called, at least three of the four of us were perilously hangry. We navigated that with warmth. Intense but friendly fire helped. I am stoked that my son’s girlfriend fits so naturally with our family. I love us in this newly ignited, expanded formation.
