I'm in the middle of a tough text exchange with a close loved one. It's not a polished place. We are both in the middle of being human. We are arguing an old gnarly issue.
As we write back and forth, I am trying to recall the teachings and take my own medicine - am I above or below the line of consciousness in this virtual conversation? Above the line, I am curious, open, accountable, and connected to my values. Below the line, I am defensive, reactive, scared, "certain", or trying very hard to protect myself while feeling like a resentful victim.
Then I notice neither above nor below. I am at the line.
I am at the threshold place where something in me knows the old way is no longer working, but the new way has not fully arrived yet.
The place where I can see my own dysfunctional patterns more clearly, but I am still learning how to do something different.
Here I love, grieve, hope, observe, and breathe.
Above or Below the Line? In 2026, we explore the Line, a conscious leadership tool for raising our presence in life and business.
