Dig Deeper: A Restful Inner Work Practice
Setting the Scene
Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can sit or lie down without distractions. Surround yourself with soft lighting and play gentle music if you like. Allow your body to relax.
Step 1: Grounding
Take a few deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Make the exhale a little longer than the inhale. Feel the support beneath you and let your body settle.
Step 2: Gentle Inquiry
Close your eyes and bring your awareness to your heart. Place one hand over your heart and the other over your belly. Ask yourself, “What am I feeling right now?” Pay close attention to physical sensations. Allow whatever arises to simply surface.
Step 3: Curiosity Without Judgment
Approach these feelings or sensations with gentle curiosity and with no judgement. Ask, “What is this feeling trying to tell me?” Embrace the unknown and rest in the “I don’t know” space, if the answer does not readily bubble up.
Step 4: Reflect and Release
Notice insights or thoughts that come up. Release any tension, knowing you’ve made space for understanding and growth.
Step 5: Closing
Bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Wiggle your fingers and toes, and open your eyes when ready.
💫At the completion of the practice, take a few more deep breaths, feeling gratitude for this time spent with yourself.
